Changing Demand in the Helmet Market

The company said demand in the aftermarket segment is being influenced by changes in consumer preferences. Along with safety requirements, buyers are considering factors such as helmet design, comfort, features and price while making purchasing decisions. The shift has also led helmet manufacturers to introduce products across different price points and with varying designs and features for the aftermarket.

Retail Network Expansion

Steelbird currently has 390 exclusive Rider Shopee outlets in India. The company plans to increase this network to 1,000 outlets. The retail expansion is aimed at increasing the availability of its helmets and other riding products through dedicated outlets.

Production Target for FY 2026-27

Steelbird's production during the first six months of FY 2026-27 stood at 56.21 lakh helmets and pannier boxes. With the festival season approaching and aftermarket demand continuing to grow, the company expects production volumes to increase during the second half of the financial year. Steelbird is targeting production of 1.20 crore helmets for FY 2026-27, with the aftermarket segment expected to remain an important part of its business.

Rajeev Kapur, Managing Director, Steelbird Hi-Tech India Limited, said, “The Indian helmet market is going through an important transformation. The consumer today is much more aware and is looking for a helmet that offers safety along with style, comfort, technology and value for money. This shift in consumer behaviour is creating significant growth opportunities, particularly in the aftermarket, and Steelbird has been able to capitalise on this trend through continuous product innovation. Our aftermarket business has grown by 30% year-on-year, and between April and September, we have already produced 56.21 lakh helmets & Pannier Boxes. With the festival season still ahead of us, we are confident that we will produce 1.20 crore helmets during this financial year.”

He further added, “Our growth is closely linked to our ability to understand what today’s rider wants. We will continue to invest in innovative products and designs that are relevant to the Indian market while maintaining our focus on safety and quality. The upcoming festival season is expected to provide further momentum to the market, and we are fully prepared to meet the increasing demand. Our objective is to make helmets more aspirational and technologically relevant without compromising on their fundamental purpose of protecting riders.”

Elctrik Speaks

The production target indicates that the helmet aftermarket remains an important part of India's two-wheeler ecosystem. The reported 30% growth in Steelbird's aftermarket business also points to continued demand beyond new two-wheeler sales.

For consumers, the larger question is whether higher helmet volumes will translate into greater adoption of certified and properly fitted helmets. As the market expands, safety standards, correct helmet usage and compliance with regulations will remain important factors alongside price and design.
