Lexus has revealed the new TZ, its first three-row battery-electric SUV for global markets. The model will sit above the RZ in the brand’s EV portfolio and shares its overall positioning with the electric Toyota Highlander planned for the US market.

Built on a dedicated EV platform, the Lexus TZ will be offered with dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations and two battery pack options. The larger 95.8kWh battery is claimed to deliver up to 530km of WLTP-certified range.

Lexus TZ: Exterior design and dimensions

The Lexus TZ features a more upright SUV design compared to the smaller RZ. At the front, the SUV gets a closed grille section with an illuminated Lexus logo, C-shaped headlamps and L-shaped daytime running lights.

The SUV has flush door handles, aerodynamic body surfaces and a claimed drag coefficient of 0.27. Lexus says the TZ rides on either 20-inch or 22-inch wheels depending on the variant.

The TZ has a wheelbase of 3,050mm and gets a full-width rear light bar with illuminated Lexus branding. Lexus will offer the SUV in 11 exterior colour options, including a new Sonic Tellus shade. Cargo space is rated at 290 litres with all seats in use and expands to 2,017 litres with the second and third rows folded.

Lexus TZ: Interior and features

Inside, the Lexus TZ gets a three-row cabin layout with second-row captain seats featuring heating, ventilation and ottoman extensions. The dashboard includes a touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument display and a head-up display. Other features include a panoramic sunroof, 21-speaker Mark Levinson audio system, ambient lighting, 360-degree camera and Lexus Safety System+ ADAS functions.

The SUV also uses bamboo-based trim materials and bio-based UltraSuede upholstery in selected areas. Lexus says additional insulation and aerodynamic changes have been used to reduce cabin noise levels.

Lexus TZ: Battery, range and charging

The Lexus TZ will be available with two battery packs: 76.96kWh and 95.8kWh. The larger battery offers a claimed WLTP range of up to 530km.

Dual-motor AWD variants produce up to 408hp and can accelerate from 0-100kph in 5.4 seconds. The SUV uses Lexus’ DIRECT4 all-wheel-drive system for torque distribution.

Charging options include support for 22kW AC charging and 150kW DC fast charging. Lexus claims the battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent in around 35 minutes under ideal conditions. Depending on the market, the SUV will support CCS, CHAdeMO and NACS charging standards. Vehicle-to-home and external power supply functions will also be available in selected markets.
