ChargeZone and Tata.ev have launched a co-branded EV charging hub at Khalapur on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The announcement was made on April 29, 2026. The facility is located at a highway food plaza and is part of a broader plan to expand charging infrastructure along key travel routes.
Capacity and infrastructure details
The hub has a total installed capacity of 720 kW. It includes five charging dispensers and 10 charging points. The system can support simultaneous charging for up to 10 electric vehicles.
The chargers are designed to deliver up to 360 kW under peak conditions, depending on the vehicle and charging requirements. This setup is intended to reduce waiting time at busy highway locations.

Part of wider highway charging rollout
The Khalapur site is part of an ongoing collaboration between ChargeZone and Tata.ev to install over 100 charging hubs across national highways. The newly opened facility is the 75th site under this initiative. The expansion reflects the increasing need for charging infrastructure beyond city limits as electric vehicle usage grows.
Focus on intercity EV travel
The hub is positioned to support long-distance EV travel by offering charging access at a commonly used stop on the Mumbai–Pune route. The location provides access to basic amenities such as parking, food outlets, and restrooms, allowing users to utilise charging time during travel breaks.
Elctrik Speaks
The addition of high-capacity charging hubs on highway corridors indicates a shift towards supporting intercity EV movement in India. While urban charging networks have expanded in recent years, similar investments on highways will be necessary to address range concerns and improve usability for long-distance travel.
Kartikey Hariyani, Founder & Chief Executive Officer, ChargeZone, said, “Highway charging is the backbone of intercity electrification, and that backbone needs to be built at scale and built right. The launch of the Mega Charging hub at Khalapur marks a significant milestone in our journey to build a high-power, future-ready EV charging network across India. With a 720 kW capacity, this installation sets a new benchmark for public charging infrastructure in the country. Our focus is on enabling fast, reliable, and seamless intercity EV travel, and this partnership with Tata.ev is a strong step in that direction as we scale across strategic national corridors.”
Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. said, “As leaders of India’s 4-wheeler electric revolution, at TATA.ev, we are striving to co-create a charging network that is fast, reliable, and accessible. With over 200 active TATA.ev Mega Charging Hubs live across the country, the launch of this new hub with ChargeZone at the Khalapur Food Mall – one of the most frequented pit-stops on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway – marks a key milestone in enabling seamless intercity travel for EV owners. We are confident that collaborations like these will play a defining role in making long-distance EV journeys dependable and convenient.”
