VinFast Electric Scooter Design Patented in India; Could Be Based on the Viper
Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has secured a design patent in India for an electric scooter, indicating progress in its plans to enter the country's electric two-wheeler market. The patent application has been published on the official Intellectual Property India website.
The scooter shown in the patent closely resembles the VinFast Viper, a model currently available in Indonesia. While the overall design remains similar, the patented version features some visual changes, including a revised headlamp design.

Patent Indicates Progress Towards India Launch
VinFast has previously confirmed that it plans to introduce three electric scooters in India during the second half of 2026. Although the company has not officially confirmed the identity of the patented scooter, its design shares several similarities with the Viper sold in international markets.
The patent filing does not confirm production or launch timelines, but it is generally considered an important step before introducing a product in a new market.
International Model Offers Two Battery Options
In Indonesia, the VinFast Viper is available in two variants with removable battery packs.
The dual-battery version is equipped with two 1.5 kWh battery packs, offers a claimed range of 145 km, produces 5.2 kW of motor power and has a top speed of 90 km/h. Charging both batteries from 0 to 100 per cent takes around nine hours.
The single-battery version uses one 1.5 kWh removable battery, delivers a claimed range of 82 km, produces 3 kW of power and has a top speed of 70 kmph. The battery can be fully charged in approximately 4.5 hours.
It is not yet known which battery configuration will be offered in India.
Competition in the Indian Market
Once launched, VinFast's electric scooters are expected to compete with products from Ather Energy, Ola Electric, Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube. Along with product pricing and specifications, the company's sales and service network will play a key role in its India operations.
Elctrik Speaks
The design patent indicates that VinFast is continuing work on its India entry strategy, but a patent filing alone does not confirm a product launch. The company will also need to establish pricing, localisation, sales channels and after-sales support before entering a market where several manufacturers already have an established presence. The battery configuration and specifications for the India-spec model also remain unconfirmed at this stage.
