Jaguar, owned by Tata Motors, has announced that its upcoming electric four-door GT will be unveiled globally in September 2026. The model is part of the company’s transition towards a new line-up of electric vehicles and will serve as a reference point for future developments.
Development Approach
The automaker stated that the vehicle has been developed around a set of internal benchmarks referred to as the “Spirit of Jaguar Drive”. These focus on performance, ride comfort, and vehicle control in an electric format.
As part of the development process, Jaguar engineers reviewed several past models in May 2023, including the XK120, E-type, XJ Coupe V12, XJS, and XJ Series I. These models were studied to identify consistent characteristics related to driving behaviour and long-distance usability.

Design Direction
The upcoming GT will feature a long bonnet and a low roofline. According to the company, this design approach is intended to maintain continuity with earlier Jaguar models while adapting to an electric vehicle platform.
Powertrain and Performance
Jaguar has outlined that the four-door GT will use a tri-motor powertrain producing over 986 bhp (1,000 PS) and 1,300 Nm of torque. The system will include torque vectoring supported by software that can respond within one millisecond to manage power distribution.
The vehicle will also be equipped with dynamic air suspension and twin-valve active dampers. These components are aimed at balancing ride quality with handling requirements.
Testing and Engineering
The company stated that both real-world and virtual testing methods have been used during development. These processes were carried out across multiple conditions to refine driving dynamics and propulsion systems.
Role in Future Line-up
Jaguar confirmed that the electric four-door GT will act as the base for its upcoming models, including future developments in design, performance architecture, and software systems. Additional details are expected to be shared at the global debut in September 2026.
Rawdon Glover, Managing Director, Jaguar, said: “Right from the start, our aim was to deliver a true Jaguar. To do that, we wanted to re-examine the provenance of the brand and the best way to achieve this was to drive some of our greatest models from the past 90 years. It provided clear direction to help us create the most technically advanced Jaguar ever made.”
Matt Becker, Vehicle Engineering Director, JLR said, “At the outset we took the unusual step of spending time behind the wheel of great models from our past – to get under the skin of what truly makes a Jaguar. At its best, Jaguar has always delivered two characters – performance and comfort – in perfect harmony and our new luxury GT is no different. It embodies everything the brand stands for. Jaguar’s founder, Sir William Lyons, used to say that ‘driving should be a joy not a chore’.”
Elctrik Speak
Jaguar’s upcoming GT indicates a shift towards high-performance electric platforms, combining multiple motors with software-driven control systems. The focus on legacy benchmarking suggests that traditional driving characteristics are being adapted to electric architectures, which may influence how premium EVs are developed going forward.
