Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has announced that it will discontinue automobile sales operations in South Korea by the end of 2026. The decision, confirmed on April 23, 2026, will impact its local subsidiary, Honda Korea Co., Ltd., which manages both motorcycle and passenger vehicle sales in the country.
The company said the move follows changes in the global and South Korean automotive markets. It added that the decision was taken after reviewing how to allocate resources to support long-term business priorities.

After-Sales Support to Continue
Despite the exit from car sales, Honda will continue to support existing customers in South Korea. Services such as maintenance, repair, spare parts supply, and warranty coverage will remain available for current vehicle owners.
Motorcycle Business to Remain
Honda will retain its motorcycle operations in South Korea. The company plans to continue selling and servicing two-wheelers through its local subsidiary, which has been operating in the market since 2002.
India Impact Limited
The South Korea decision is not expected to have a direct impact on Honda’s operations in India. The company continues to test new products for the domestic market, including the upcoming Honda 0 Alpha electric SUV, which is likely to be produced at its Tapukara plant in Rajasthan.
Honda is also working on future product plans for India, including new SUV models and updates to its hybrid lineup. This indicates that India remains part of its ongoing market strategy.
Industry Context
Automakers have been reviewing their presence in different regions due to shifts in demand, transition to electric vehicles, and cost pressures. Honda’s decision to exit car sales in South Korea reflects a market-specific adjustment rather than a broader withdrawal from international operations.
Elctrik Speaks
Honda’s move to discontinue car sales in South Korea points to a focused approach in managing global operations. While the company is reducing exposure in one market, it continues to invest in others such as India, where product development and manufacturing plans remain active.
