BMW has patented its M Neue Klasse concept in India, indicating that the electric performance sedan could be considered for the Indian market. The model is expected to form the basis of the next-generation M3 and will be developed as an electric-only performance car. Global production of the M Neue Klasse is expected to begin in 2027. BMW has not confirmed an India launch timeline.

BMW M Neue Klasse Production Timeline

The M Neue Klasse will be based on BMW’s new electric vehicle architecture. The platform has been developed to support different electric powertrain layouts, including rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

The upcoming M model is expected to use four electric motors, with one motor connected to each wheel. This setup will allow the power delivered to individual wheels to be controlled separately.

Four-Motor System And Torque Vectoring

The four electric motors are expected to work with a torque-vectoring system. This will allow the car to adjust torque at each wheel based on driving conditions.

BMW is also expected to use its Dynamic Performance Control software to manage the electric powertrain and other vehicle functions. The new architecture will have dedicated computing systems for functions such as infotainment, driver assistance and vehicle controls.

Battery And 800V Architecture

The electric M Neue Klasse is expected to use a battery pack with a capacity of more than 100kWh. The car will use an 800V electrical architecture and BMW’s next-generation cylindrical battery cells. BMW has not disclosed the final battery capacity, range or charging figures for the production model.

Electric M3 Could Feature Simulated Gear Shifts

BMW is also expected to use software-based features to replicate some characteristics associated with conventional performance cars. These could include simulated gear changes and artificial engine sounds. The final power output, acceleration figures and other performance specifications have not been announced.

India Launch Timeline

The global production model is expected to enter production in 2027. BMW could introduce the electric M model in India at a later stage, although the company has not announced an India launch date.
